ACADEMICS
Academics Overview
“The unspoken demand of children is for a wide and very varied curriculum; it is necessary that they should have some knowledge of the wide range of interests proper to them as human beings.”
Academics At Ambleside
Academics that nurture the whole child
Ambleside students receive a Living Education rich in ideas, discovery, and faith. We spread a rich feast in front of children in more than sixteen curriculum areas throughout all grades: Kindergarten, Lower and Middle School.
At each stage, the curriculum expands in depth and challenge. An emphasis on “hands-on” learning and on primary sources allow students to build personal relationships with God’s creation, with great men and women of history, and with the great ideas expressed in history and the arts: “plunging into vital knowledge, with a great field before him which all his life he will not be able to fully explore.”
In addition, the classroom schedule alternates between inspirational lessons, such as poetry or nature study, and disciplinary work, such as grammar and math. This constant movement between subjects that encourage reflection and those that require focused skill refreshes the students’ minds, as does time spent outdoors in physical activity and exploration.
The courses of study vary between the grades and the depth at which they are encountered. Click each button below to learn more about the courses of study in our Christian Lower and Middle Schools.
