Happening at Ambleside
Ambleside hosts a number of special events throughout the school year for our students, families, and the wider community. Learn more about a few of these events below.
Every Friday at 8:20, the school gathers for morning chapel. Parents are welcome to attend.
This is a casual gathering at Ambleside held about once a month after morning carpool. Our Head of School, Mrs. Krise Nowak, leads parents in a guided discussion of a selected text from Charlotte Mason's work. The discussion helps parents to understand how these principles may be applied in the classroom and at home. Coffee and light morning refreshments are served. No preparation is required and childcare is provided.
This a community meeting for all parents and staff members. They are twice a year, usually scheduled for the Fall and Winter. Our Fall Parent Teacher Fellowship includes a potluck dinner.
PTFs are an invaluable opportunity to meet and build community with other parents, while hearing important information from the Head of School, administrative staff, teachers and the Ambleside Board or Trustees. It is mandatory for one parent to attend each PTF. Child care should be arranged for children at home if both parents attend.
These evening gatherings provide parents the opportunity to discuss Charlotte Mason’s ideas that support their parenting.
Ambleside Evenings are a way for parents to support one another in caring for their children, build relationships together through food and fellowship, and become a stronger school community as we learn about how to bring the transformative power of Charlotte Mason’s method into our homes.
This is a special evening “Lessons and Carols” worship service celebrating the birth of Christ, through songs and Scripture reading. Students perform choral pieces they have mastered and share inspirational readings and recitations. Students wear their “Christmas best.” Friends and extended family are welcome to attend. A reception of Christmas cookies and refreshments follows.
Ambleside School’s Shakespeare Festival includes a performance of sonnets, songs, and dance by the lower grades. The evening culminates in a performance of a Shakespeare play by the 7th and 8th Grades.
“To become intimate with Shakespeare in this way is a great enrichment of mind and instruction of conscience. Then, by degrees, as we go on reading this world-teacher, lines of insight and beauty take possession of us, and unconsciously mould our judgments of men and things and of the great issues of life."
