Resources for Applying

As part of the application process, you are required to read the attached background reading "Concerning Children as Persons.”  This will provide you with insight into the values of Ambleside School.  The reading is selected from Charlotte Mason’s broader works and highlight fundamental principles of education at Ambleside, namely, that children are persons and the tools for their education are the atmosphere of the classroom, the formation of habits, and the inspiration of ideas.  It will be discussed during the interview process.

General Description of an Ambleside Teacher

Ambleside teachers have an active, personal faith in Jesus Christ along with a desire to live out their faith by investing in young children and families through education.  They love books: classics, fairy tales, history, science, math, poetry, and any text well-written with good ideas. They love nature, art, music, and many other subjects and desire to introduce them to students.  They are lifelong learners.

Ambleside teachers sense a calling to help children grow academically, spiritually, and in character.  They are interested in doing the hard work personally and professionally. They are able to lead young people with authority and respect, insight and courage, love and inspiration. They are committed to Jesus’ principles of relationship with God and others through practice and prayer.

Recognizing that Ambleside School exists for the purpose of implementing the method of Charlotte Mason, Ambleside teachers willingly submit to our educational philosophy as practiced by our schools affiliated with Ambleside Schools International.  Teachers eagerly seek to increase their own knowledge and understanding by researching, discussing, and attending training so they might become better teachers.

Besides the core subjects of Bible, math, literature, history and science, teachers at Ambleside instruct in many other areas of study, 12- 16 subjects a week. Our curriculum uses few textbooks.  Teachers are trained in our philosophy at a week long Summer Institute and through frequent observations in the classroom.

If you have a love and loyalty for Christ, the capacity to connect with and influence children. If you delight in learning, reading, and studying, and if you are developing a passion for Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, we would love to hear from you.
